British American Tobacco launches new safety program

BRITISH American Tabacco (BAT) the only manufacturer of cigarettes in PNG continue to embrace and uphold PNG safety standards by launching a new behavior base Safety program called PULSAR.
The launching took place at the factory site in Madang where presentations and demonstrations were done and safety activities were organized for everyone to participate in starting from 1pm to 5pm.
BAT put safety of the employees a priority that is why the company put a significant amount of time, money and effort into launching the new behavioral base safety program.
The company in a press statement said PULSAR is a behavioral based safety program that is a process that generates a safety partnership between the workforce and managers who continually focus attention and actions on their own and other’s behaviors.
“This program focuses on identifying unsafe behaviors which can cause accidents in the work place and eliminating them, as a result changing the behavior of the people and creating a more safety conscious culture,” Company said.
Company said PULSAR was first initiated in BAT Brazil in 2013 and after proving successful, pilot factories all around the world started PULSAR execution and was extended to all other BAT Operating companies in 2015.
BAT Akora factory in Pakistan and Singapore factories were selected as pilot factories in the Asia Pacific region and it has subsequently been extended to all other BAT operations in the region which has seen it land on the shores of BAT PNG in Madang where the factory is located.
BAT Head of Operations Simon Goodman said Pulsar is an excellent tool that will help focus the entire workforce on safe practices and behaviors.
Safety has and always will be our highest priority and this is another great example of where we are investing time and resources behind an initiative that will keep our people safe at work.
Mr Goodman said the company is looking forward to fully implementing this program and ensuring its maturity throughout this year and in the following years to come.
With a great safety record for BATPNG so far, management is keen on ensuring high safety standards are maintained and are always looking to implement continuous improvement opportunities.
