A church-backed taskforce to tackle the issue of sorcery-related violence in Papua New Guinea has signed off on a provincial action plan for the Southern Highlands.
The initiative was worked out at a meeting in Mendi yesterday, which saw police, teachers, health workers, as well as community groups and NGO's set goals for their sectors that will help address ongoing issues.
But the Bishop of Mendi, Don Lippert, says while taking a community-minded approach to the crimes is crucial, his group is still waiting for top-level government officials to offer their support as well.
