Caritas looks at long term sustainable relief work

National Director of Caritas PNG Raymond Ton today in a media conference announced that the agency in affiliation with Caritas Australia and Caritas New Zealand is providing relief supplies to the drought affected areas in the Highlands region and Western Province in a two-phased program to reach out to the vulnerable and affected families in these areas.
Mr Ton said they have already begun work and the first phase is supplying of food baskets and water supply through local catholic dioceses. Mr Ton explained that the food supplies are monitored and checked by health secretaries in the local catholic dioceses to make sure they are healthy and balanced nutritionally as well as meeting the requirements of National Disaster Centre.
The second phase of the relief program is for long term sustainable relief work program to provide water tanks and water sanitation and hygiene programs in collaboration with other Non-Government Agencies.
