Primary Students among Rape suspects

THREE primary school students were among 10 suspects detained by Gulf police over the rape of a 16-year-old girl.
Gulf provincial police commander Lincoln Gerari said the incident took place last Monday in Miaru village at around 2pm when the girl went to the beach alone to swim.
“One of the boys approached her and asked her to have sex with him,” Gerari said.
“She refused and was forced by the boy and his friends into a nearby bush where she was raped.”
The girl’s father, after realising her missing from the beach for about an hour, found her and rescued her.
“She was unable to walk. She was taken to the hospital and examined,” Gerari said.
“All the suspects have been arrested and detained at the Kerema police station.”
He said investigations were underway by the only two officers from the family and sexual violence unit and would take time before formal charges were laid.
In another incident, more than K100,000 worth of property was lost after a woman set the family home ablaze following an argument with her husband.
Gerari said the house belonged to PNG Power Limited and was used by its employee, a power operator.
The woman is believed to be his wife.
“She’s been detained for further investigation,” he said.
The argument started from accusations of adultery and led to the burning of the house.  The National
