PNG NGO groop against NID

A non-government organization - the Voice of Melanesia Group, says it is against the National Identity Project.
The group held a demonstration outside Parliament House this week to express their view.
The N-I-D Project was initiated by the Government to identify and account for every citizen in the country, so basic services can be equally distributed, whilst citizens can also have access to services like education and health, among others.
But, the Voice of Melanesia Group believes, the N-I-D is one of 27 conditions of the World Bank given to Papua New Guinea.
The group says not much awareness has been carried out and people are too afraid to reveal all their life's information.
The voice of Melanesia had gone against the NID project believing that the citizens of this country do not need the identification card to excess services in their home land.
Voice of Melanesia coordinator in Kainantu Trifo Humphrey says there wasn't enough awareness carried out regarding the project and people are scared about the process of the registration when including finger prints.
"Ino olsem normal ID card wea driving license o wanem kain students ID card na displa.
"NID go wantaim finger print, ol kisim olgeta samting blo mipla, resource na cargo na olgeta samting but NID mipla lukim olsem ol laik ownim personal laif blo mipla tu," Humphrey said.
Representatives from different provinces in the country have different views on the advantages and disadvantages of the NID project.
