Minogue assures safety for athletes and spectators during Port Moresby 2015
PORT MORESBY, July 2 – Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council Andrew Minogue (AUS) has told participating athletes and the general public that their security will be assured during the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games.
Speaking at a press conference at the Games village, Minogue said that more than 3,000 security personnel have been mobilised to ensure Port Moresby’s streets are safe.
“We know that security is a major concern and we have prepared for that. Now we can deliver the Games,” said Minogue on Thursday.
He said security is of high priority to the Pacific Games Council and its importance has been stressed at every opportunity.
The more than 3,000 security staff will help assist local police and members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force to maintain law and order while creating a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere for the Pacific Games.
The government has recently deployed 2700 police, 300 Correctional Services personnel and 300 highly trained members of the PNG Defence Force to assist in keeping the Games safe.
Minogue further assured the general public that every venue in Port Moresby has its own security officers guiding, directing, and protecting athletes and the general public.
