PNG Govt eyes educated population by 2050

THE Government is ambitious about having an educated population by 2050, the PNG Update conference heard at the University of PNG last week.
The managing director for Asia Pacific Institute of Social, Economic and Technical Studies (Apiasets) Thomas Pillar said:
“It’s a very good and important ambition the Government is embarking on, but to have that ambition to become a reality in 2050, the Government must partner with private institutions to deliver education to the people of this country.
“Government needs to realize that the private institution is an important partner in the development of our country.
“For instance, most of the students who could not make it through further studies were left out of the education system either in Grade 8, Grade 10 or Grade 12 because they did not meet the criteria set in the education system.”
