PNG weight lifters will go through a final trim down competition this weekend before a final 19 member squad is selected for further training in preparation for the Pacific Games.
According the PNG Weight Lifting’s Lakani Oala, the ideal squad for the Pacific Games would be 9 females and 10 males for the respective divisions.
“There will be seven women with two reserves and eight man with two reserves for the two divisions,” says Mr. Oala.
At this time there are over twenty participants vying for a spot in the final squad and the selectors will only select from the competition those qualified to go for final one month training in New Caledonia this June.
This weekend’s competition will see the senior male and females divisions compete on Saturday, while the junior males and females divisions on Sunday.
Meantime, PNG weightlifting gold medallist, Dika Toua has already gone for the final training preparations in New Caledonia.
