Mother dies from birth complication

A mother from Nuku in Sandaun has died following complications she experienced during birth this week.

According to Sandaun Hospital's Director of Public Health, Mr. Jack Seimoni, she was rushed to Boram Hospital in Wewak when she experienced complications after giving birth. She was no attended to quickly by medical staff there, which resulted in her death.

Meantime, another mother, also from Nuku is fortunate after she was quickly airlifted by helicopter to the Provincial Hospital in Vanimo. She is now in a stable condition.

Mr. Seimoni also says that most of the health facilities in the districts are not well equipped to assist mothers giving birth and many times deaths occur because of this.
