Australian Government funds short courses for Papua New Guinea directors

The Australian Government has funded a short course for Papua New Guinean directors in the public and private sectors, through the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct Program.

The course delivered by the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) was held from 20 to 22 April at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby with the theme ‘Establish Your Director Knowledge’.

Nineteen participants developed an understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a director and familiarity with governance and board meeting processes. Topics covered include governance, finance, strategy, compliance and risk for directors.

A participant who attended the course, Evangeline Taunao, from the Independent Public Business Corporation (IPBC) said: “As a young, up and upcoming PNG leader in the public sector, I recognise that the courses run by AICD are very important to continue to develop Papua New Guineans. This training is a good foundation so that we can build up and take over from our current leaders.”

This course is a series of short courses intended to help strengthen executive leadership in PNG delivered under the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct.
