Result shows Nama-1 ‘not commercially productive’

THE preliminary results of Nama-1 exploration well have deemed it “not commercially productive”, according to PNG Industry News.
Nama-1 exploration well in Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL) 259 in Western is located 20 kilometres east of the Stanley gas project area.
Horizon Oil said spudding reached a total depth of 3533m and encountered a total of 77 metres of Early Cretaceous Elevala and Toro sandstones and Late Jurassic Kimu sandstones.
The sands were considerably thicker than predicated and were calculated as being gas-saturated. Despite this, the reservoir has been considered of poor quality. Interpretation of the data will be used to determine if there is remaining potential at the Nama prospect.
The well has been plugged and abandoned with the anticipated release of Parker Rig 226.
