MADANG NOMINATIONS CLOSE

People of Madang District, have been told to ensure a peaceful by-election, later this year.

Returning Officer, Adolf Duangha, says people must take ownership of the election.

"On behalf of he Electoral team here, the manager and the staff and all of us at the election office and the Provincial Steering Committee, I would like to appeal to the people of Madang that the election belong to them and we expect everyone to cooperate with the electoral commission team here and we should end the polling peacefully andfind a leader for the vacancy," Mr. Duangha told NBC's Dabai Show.

A total of 18 candidates, among them several former M-P's are contesting the Madang Open by-election.

The seat has been left vacant, after former Police Minister, Nixon Duban, was ousted by the Court of Disputed Returns.

Polling runs from November 15 to 21 with counting to follow soon after, while Writs will be returned before or after December 20.
