One down, three to go for the Fiji Under-20 football team who staged a second half fight back to beat Vanuatu 3-2 yesterday in the World Cup qualifiers opener.
This was only the start, and as Indra Singh reports, the tougher part of the tournament is yet to come.
“It was amazing how Fiji fought back in the second spell to come out as winners. The game itself had a lot of lessons for Fiji. Defensive loopholes were exposed and probably a learning experience for the boys who played in their first ever international match.
For Vanuatu, coach Moise Poida was a disappointed man, his side losing their two nil lead.
Looking at the second game, New Zealand beatingPNG five nil. PNG had their moments but the effort of the PNG goalie wont go unnoticed who kept a good number of shots out of goal.
New Zealand with an impressive line-up look to be the team to beat after the first day of games.
For Fiji, their next obstacle is New Caledonia. The match will be played tomorrow at 4.30pm.
Before that Vanuatu takes on New Zealand at 2pm here at Churchill Park.
Remember you can catch a live commentary of the game on our sister station Radio Fiji Two with the voice of soccer Raymond Stoddart.
