While fortunately the singer was not at home at the time - as she is currently in Hawaii celebrating her birthday with on and off again boyfriend Chris Brown - police have arrested the man on suspicion of burglary, according to TMZ.
The Stay singer - who turned 25 on Wednesday - has her neighbours to thank for alerting the police.
According to TMZ, neighbours first spotted the man roaming around the $12 million property, then bravely confronted him and detained him while waiting for police to arrive.
Lucky escape: The singer was not home at the time as she is currently celebrating her 25th birthday in Hawaii with boyfriend Chris Brown
The man is currently being investigated for burglary but claims he was given directions to the house, TMZ reported.
'Law enforcement sources tell us the suspect has told police someone emailed him instructions on how to get into the home so he rolled over to the property and followed the directions,' TMZ said on Friday.
'We're told the instructions worked because the man was able to get inside the home where he allegedly snooped around for a while before neighbors noticed something was up.'
Neighbourhood watch: Neighbours spotted the man inside the home of the Good Girl Gone Bad singer, seen here leaving Los Angeles last week
Just something small: The 11,000 square foot mansion boasts seven bedrooms and an extensive outdoor entertaining area
And her neighbours have good reason to keep an eye out with houses in the area all worth millions of dollars and many high profile celebrities also calling it home including Seal, Heidi Klum and Tom Brady.
The intruder was able to get into the home despite the over 33,000 square foot compound being surrounded by a giant wall and managed to cross the 6,000 square foot backyard without detection.
The star only bought the home in December and it boasts seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a pool and parking for 20 cars.
History repeating: In December a man, on the right, was found trespassing at Rihanna's Barbados home, and got within a few feet of her before security intervened
This is not the first time an uninvited guest has stopped by Rihanna's place.

Not getting her down: The singer managed to continue enjoying herself despite the alarming news
Rihanna did not let this latest intruder burst her bubble though, with the star partying up a storm in Hawaii.
Rihanna has been posting Instargram pictures of her celebration non-stop since touching down in the islands.
She has also not been shy in posting pictures of boyfriend Chris, despite heavy criticism from fans and many in the music industry for taking the singer back after his 2009 assault of the Barbados-born beauty.
